Walt Disney Attractions Technology (WDAT) is the business unit within the Walt Disney Company responsible for developing and maintaining the online guest experiences of our theme parks, resorts and cruise line.

This back-end services engineer role is a member of our search team, building out and supporting site search solutions for our biggest brands, helping millions of guests find the information they need to have the best Parks and Resorts experience possible. You will work directly with other software engineers, web developers, QA engineers, and business partners to create and maintain high quality products that directly contribute to company goals and guest satisfaction. In the near term, you will help consolidate our search technology to a modern search platform, applying across external and internal sites. In the long term, you will use your search expertise to help improve search features, result relevancy, and build additional use cases for the platform technology.

Responsibilities :

  • Be part of a strong development team to implement and maintain search capabilities across Parks & Resorts websites

  • Develop high quality code adhering to engineering best practices including automated unit and integration testing, code reviews, and documentation

  • Work in our Elasticsearch platform and manage applications with multi-language indexes in a faceted search environment.

  • Ability to complete tasks on time and in budget within a climate of frequent change

  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including:

  • project plan task estimates

  • software architecture

  • use case and object modeling

  • detailed design documents

  • framework design and development

  • code development

  • performance testing and tuning

  • maintenance of production issues

Basic Qualifications :

  • Expert level skills with at least one enterprise search platform such as SOLR or Elasticsearch

  • 7+ years of full software development lifecycle experience

  • 5+ years of Java development and object-oriented analysis and design. Spring MVC / Spring Webflow strongly desired

  • 5+ years with Internet technologies including RESTful web services

  • Experience with running applications in AWS or Azure

  • Proficient in all aspects of programming and analysis including design patterns

  • Commercial code and release management tools (e.g. GIT, Jenkins)

  • Apache Tomcat

  • UNIX / Linux shell scripting

  • SQL and relational databases

  • Agile scrum development methodology

  • Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Neo4j or other graph database experience

Required Education :

  • BS/BA degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience
