Disney Theatrical Productions (DTP) operates under the direction of Thomas Schumacher and is among the world’s most successful commercial theatre enterprises, bringing live entertainment events to a global annual audience of more than 20 million people in more than 50 countries. In addition, DTP licenses musical titles for local, school and community theatre productions through Music Theatre International, including The Lion King Experience, a unique holistic arts education program wherein accredited elementary and middle schools produce condensed, age-appropriate JR. and KIDS adaptations of The Lion King.

The Vice President, Marketing/Publicity/Sales/Education is primarily responsible for developing, refining, communicating and leading Disney Theatrical Group’s integrated strategies and programs across the multiple disciplines of the Marketing, Publicity, Sales & Analytics, and Education & Audience Engagement functions.

As a key player of the DTG leadership team, the VP, Marketing/Publicity/Sales/Education works extensively with Executive Management (President/Producer; SVP, Strategy, Marketing & Revenue; wider Executive Team) to define and manage overall marketing and communication strategy for a complex organization with multiple brands, product lines and IP, each with its own set of business objectives and success criteria. While the role’s day-to-day revenue responsibility is tied primarily to Disney Theatrical Productions’ Broadway-based shows, the role will consult with key partners in DTG’s other revenue centers, including touring, international, and licensed productions.

The ideal candidate is a dynamic and entrepreneurial individual with diverse and proven experience in marketing, promoting, and selling a spectrum of live entertainment properties, including, and most importantly, Broadway productions. This person has a track record of managerial and financial achievement, a superior creative aesthetic, and a critical eye for the many ways in which a brand communicates to its consumer base. She/He has extensive and proven team leadership and staff development skills, and she/he possesses active relationships with key theatre industry leaders, professionals, agencies, media partners, distribution vendors, and/or talent. Finally, the ideal candidate is passionately committed to the performing arts and the development of its future audiences.

Responsibilities :

  • Drive revenue for DTG, with particular focus on DTP’s Broadway productions, via integration between the Marketing, Publicity, Sales & Analytics and Education & Audience Engagement teams, with the objective of creating opportunities which optimize outcomes related to scope, impact, income, creativity, customer experience, and more. Set and achieve quarterly and annual goals across these four primary functions.

  • Lead a robust and highly-skilled team that fulfills the following functions:

  • The Marketing department and its core functions, including brand management, budgeting, media planning, marketing creative, social media, digital media, asset management, consumer research, promotions and brand partnerships.

  • The Publicity department and its core functions, including communications strategy, placement of press stories and appearances, internal communications, media training, and corporate presentations.

  • The Sales & Analytics department and its core functions, including revenue projection and optimization, inventory management, ticket pricing, data collection and analysis, direct response communications, partnership sales, tourism and distribution programs, and box office operations.

  • The Education & Audience Engagement department and its core functions and programs, including Disney Musicals in Schools, workshop development and execution, education content and its distribution, long-range audience development initiatives, and key external engagement partnerships.

  • Identify new opportunities, build proposals and gain executive buy-in in order to execute multi-layered marketing programs across teams.

  • Ensure a singular voice with clear, consistent messaging across different disciplines and productions.

  • Maintain an eye for global brand management and related functions across DTG’s suite of brands (such as DTP shows around the world, stage licensing titles and Disney on Ice).

  • Oversee the alignment of DTG’s social responsibility and philanthropic initiatives and reporting of same.

  • In partnership with DTG’s Finance and Strategy functions, serve as strategic advisor to Executive Management on how DTG defines, manages, and communicates its broader marketing and sales goals and priorities as part of DTG’s annual operating plan.

  • Understand the wider Disney consumer experience and develop DTG marketing and publicity programs that tie directly to it. Translate and link TWDC corporate-wide objectives with those of DTG, and as such manage and/or participate in select relationships connected to initiatives in such areas as Social Responsibility, Synergy, Consumer Data Integration and Franchise Marketing.

  • Engage at the executive level internally with multiple members of DTG staff (and key staff throughout TWDC as required). The function engages externally with members of the theatre industry and community; marketing partners; philanthropic partners; tourist, B2B, and sales distribution partners; and members of the press or influencers, as projects or initiatives dictate.

  • Manage 5 direct reports (each with substantial teams, some with external agencies).

Basic Qualifications :

  • Superior leadership and relationship management skills, including the ability to manage and inspire multiple projects across a large, diverse, experienced staff.

  • Proven ability to: develop missions and goals; prioritize objectives and allocate time/resources accordingly; and reflect on completed projects with an eye towards improving subsequent efforts.

  • Passion for live entertainment, with particular focus on musical theatre, and the ability to translate that passion into the advocacy for and engagement of future audiences.

  • Excellent ability to overcome challenges and optimize opportunities through a logical, systematic, sequential approach to analytical thinking.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills, with proven ability to successfully communicate with staff of all levels in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

  • Superior public speaking and presentation skills, including the ability to build and give professional-level presentations.

  • Self-motivated, proactive attitude; adaptable and flexible; ability to lead and follow as circumstances require; a team player who knows when, how and where to lead.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Deep experience in live performance and/or the commercial theatre industry
