This is a senior management role within The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) EMEA Research team, responsible for representing the voice of the consumer and putting the consumer at the heart of business decision making.

The purpose of this role is to:

  • Lead the team in the creation of compelling sales stories for the benefit of the Disney Media Sales and Partnerships (DMSP) team;

  • Working within the DMSP business to promote the sale of partnerships around some of the best known IP in the media world;

  • Further, and beyond the partnerships area, advance sales stories within the TV spot market and online owned platforms around TWDC’s initiatives in these areas;

  • Effectively lead and develop a small team to both achieve the goals of the team but also advance the skills within that team;

  • Support the VP EMEA Research/UK Research Director more widely in terms of the research and insight agenda for the whole company (where appropriate).

This role has both EMEA and UK responsibility And reports jointly into the Vice President, Head of Research EMEA and Director, Research UK.

As part of the EMEA Research Steering Group, you will be responsible for helping the team achieve its vision and exemplifying the values of a best in class research professional to the junior members of the team and the wider business.

Geographically, the remit of the role is the EMEA region. Therefore you will be responsible for having oversight of all of the research conducted within each of the EMEA markets. Working closely with the research leads in each of the markets you will be responsible for communicating EMEA strategy, making sure local plans align to that strategy, joining the dots between individual local market initiatives to create efficiencies and encouraging best practice.

Responsibilities :

  • Development and overseeing the running of a research programme of post campaign evaluations based around partnerships between TWDC (and its brands) and commercial partners;

  • Working with the DMSP team to strategically target the business around appropriate commercial sectors/partners/IP/audiences

  • Being the company’s expert in the commercial media market landscape and communicating their knowledge as such;

  • Being the champion amongst senior stakeholders for research and insights’ role in the achievement of DMSP’s goals;

  • Synthesis of data from within DMSP, across Disney’s lines of business and from external data sources to create effective sales stories;

  • Provision of support for commercial pitches from creation to external delivery (where applicable);

  • Seconding for the UK Research Director across other lines of business with TWDC, when required;

  • Leadership and development of the DMSP Research Team;

  • Managing a research budget and the relationships with suppliers drawing on this budget.

Basic Qualifications :

This role requires a senior level researcher with a strong commercial research background and comprehensive experience in partnerships and/or digital sales environments.

You will need to demonstrate your business understanding, and leverage your technical skills to create impactful consumer insights that help shape the business.

The individual must have proven experience of leading teams and managing research projects that address business objectives.

Specifically the individual must be at an advanced level in terms of:

·Significant understanding of Market Research and its commercial application

·Knowledge of all standard primary and secondary research techniques and their application

·Excellent understanding of the competitor and commercial media environment

·Translating business issues into research needs

·Telling a story from research data – creatively using data sources for compelling sales arguments

·Confident presenter for delivery of findings to external clients

·Providing advice and expert opinion to non-research partners

·Selecting and managing research vendors

·Reviewing secondary or syndicated research as necessary to supplement custom analyses

·Analysis of research data

·Identifying research insights and presenting actionable recommendations

·Experience of managing projects within an overall budget

·Experience of taking responsibility across a range of projects and initiatives

·Experience in dealing with commercial sales teams and environment

oPrevious experience with media agencies and/or commercial aspects of media owners preferred

  • Ability to develop longer term research plans within a strategic direction

  • Ability to work effectively across internal functional areas in ambiguous situations

·Proactivity in challenging business initiatives and approaches and recommending a different route

·Resourceful and pro-active in approach to questions - looks for solutions and information in creative ways
