The Walt Disney Company has a permanent opportunity for an Indirect Tax Manager to join the Corporate Tax Team for EMEA, based in our Head Office in Hammersmith, London.

The Indirect Tax Manager will support the Principal EMEA Indirect Tax on compliance, advisory and legislative matters for supporting all of Disney EMEA’s line of businesses. Support the EMEA tax team on ad-hoc projects. Work with junior members of the team to develop their skills and knowledge.

This role will require a highly motivated commercial tax professional with strong technical and interpersonal skills who wishes to pursue a career in a growing and dynamic global organisation.

Responsibilities : Compliance

  • Managing the day to day VAT compliance obligations for VAT registrations across Europe

  • MOSS submission for online services across Europe

  • Preparing and filing monthly and quarterly VAT returns, EC Sales Lists, Intrastat and other reports as required in the registered countries. Registration and filing returns for all Production company entities. Ensuring close liaison with HMRC to ensure tracking to business account

  • Ensure timely filing of VAT returns and payments of liability

  • Arranging the payments for VAT liabilities, including obtaining the necessary approvals

  • Help with the preparation of information for and coordination of VAT audits

  • Complete monthly and quarterly VAT general ledger account reconciliation to VAT returns submitted in compliance with corporate account reconciliation policy. This includes the use of various finance systems and reporting

  • Weekly product VAT classification reviews for The Disney Store

  • Review and submit 8th and 13th Directive claims

Business Advisory

  • Providing ongoing VAT advice and training (where applicable) to the various Lines of Business, Accounts Payable, and to the Shared Service Centre

  • Liaising with external consultants as and when required in respect of the filing obligations, changes in legislation or business projects

  • Assist and work closely with the accounting teams focus on continuous improvement of VAT coding and reporting

  • Assist with the preparation of timely responses to tax inquiries and audits

  • Communication with local finance staff in different countries across Europe

  • Work alongside IT to ensure all SAP changes effecting VAT are tested and reviewed before signed off for production

  • Support the business and the Principal (Director) – EMEA Indirect Taxes in assessing whether to implement any tax technology solutions which standardises VAT reporting and can respond to new digitised tax reporting demands

Legislation changes

  • Support the Director of EMEA Indirect taxes in monitoring all Indirect Tax changes affecting our businesses and work with the business to ensure changes implemented on time.

  • Supporting the Principal EMEA Indirect Taxes on policy initiative and lobbying

  • Work with the Principal EMEA Indirect Taxes on developing and implementing Tax technology initiatives such as Making Tax Digital, and e-invoicing.

  • Act as tax lead for any system changes responding to change in legislation such as SAF-T, SII, Making Tax Digital and split payments. Responsibilities include liaison with the overall Project Manager and other business stakeholders to ensure all tax legal and reporting requirements are delivered

Other/team

  • Work closely with other EMEA tax colleagues in supporting cross over work i.e. Production entity support, PSA reporting

Basic Qualifications :

  • Significant indirect tax experience preferably including international and domestic supplies of goods and services

  • CTA or equivalent qualification

  • Accurate with great attention to detail at all times

  • Strong team player and good communicator

  • Proactive, independent worker

  • Ability to work under pressure and strict deadlines

  • Strong Accounting and VAT reporting background in a multinational environment

  • Awareness of VAT and associated reporting obligations across EMEA

  • Excellent knowledge of Excel

  • Experience in using SAP to prepare VAT returns and undertaking associated reconciliations is highly desirable.
