The Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide professional engineering services to support all aspects of the RCID/RCES mechanical utility systems including: Chilled water production and distribution; Hot water production and distribution; Compressed air production and distribution; Natural gas distribution; and Power plant (combined cycle) electrical and thermal generation. Cross-support of RCID Potable Water and Sanitary Systems is required.
Planning: Provide forecasting of systems and equipment needs due to growth, legislative requirements, and obsolescence. Create master plans. Plan and apply for necessary permits. Estimate costs. Perform system planning. Respond to customer utility service requests.
Design: Perform design of utility systems including production of contract documents. Manage design professionals (consultants). Write scopes of work. Understand end-user requirements.
Construction: Perform project management and project engineering functions. Budgeting, shop drawing/submittal review, field inspection, change orders, quality control, testing, commissioning.
Maintenance: Perform analysis of system operation for effectiveness and efficiency. Solve problems. Provide an independent set of eyes. Serve as management's "window into the system". Broker between operation’s needs/wants and management's needs/wants. Interpret. Provide forensic engineering analysis on failed equipment or systems.
Consult: Serve as an in-house consultant for RCID/RCES/Walt Disney World Co. and Corporate. Be willing and able to provide assistance and information. All engineers at Reedy Creek Energy Services support their counterparts in the other disciplines; providing in-house consulting services to each other, cross-checking and peer reviewing each other’s logic and product, and teaming to produce special projects. Assist the Principal Mechanical Engineer in department initiatives.
Basic Qualifications :
Minimum seven (7) years of applicable engineering experience.
Registered Professional Engineer in the State of Florida or registration in another state with ability to become registered in Florida within six months of employment.
Experience with design and construction of underground utilities including the design and production of plan and profile contract documents.
Experience with the specification or erection or operation of large centrifugal chillers, centrifugal pumps, air compressors, cooling towers, hot water and steam boilers, thermal piping systems, pressure piping systems and natural gas systems.
Ability to utilize AUTOCAD software to directly create design and construction documents and to direct CAD drafters in drawing production.
Excellent verbal and written skills are required.
Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel.
Familiarity with industry codes and standards insofar as they relate to construction, operation, and maintenance (not manufacturing design): ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, ANSI B31.1/B31.8, National Fuel Gas Code.
Preferred Qualifications :
Construction estimating skills and experience.
Familiarity with U.S. Department of Transportation Minimum Federal Safety Standards Parts 191, 192 and 199 and Florida Public Service Commission Rules Chapter 25-12 as they relate to design, construction, and operation of natural gas local distribution systems.
Experience with system hydraulic analysis of compressible and incompressible fluid systems using commercially available software tools. Experience with AFT Fathom and Arrow is preferred but experience with other programs that indicates skills transfer capability is acceptable.
Required Education :
Minimum Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent degree title) from an ABET accredited institution.
Current Professional Engineer Registration the state of Florida or current registration in another state with the ability to become registered in Florida within six (6) months of employment. Note that registration in Florida is a requirement of employment.
