The Walt Disney Company Manager - Technology in Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Manager will focus on software and engineering solutions at Walt Disney Attractions Technology. This person will be creating and supporting innovative solutions by leading the development and implementation of technology products and applications for Walt Disney theme parks globally. This role will be responsible for driving estimates, planning and leading development / support activities that are executed by both internal and vendor resources. This person must be an expert in custom developed applications (Mobile application development is desired) within the environment and projects, understanding the overall product roadmap, technology stack, application suite, business processes and any downstream system and business impacts. Interface with peers, executives and line of business stakeholders to ensure collaboration at all levels. The role will partner closely with Solutions Engineering to ensure the technical solutions, technical product strategy and architecture.

Responsibilities : This role will have responsibility for implementation of custom software and development leadership for Resort Technology applications with the following goals:

  • Maintain Ownership and orchestration for the product roadmap – Technology & Functional.

  • Provide Technical & Managerial Leadership and day to day guidance to a matrixed team of developers, business analysts, quality engineers, etc. through scrum meetings and agile development tools

  • Partner with the Agile community of practice to gain expertise in best practices and process improvement, which should be applied / practiced

  • Maintain relationships with key Business Partners

  • Champion organizational change

  • Align team goals and accomplishments towards organizational objectives

  • Implement and maintain a team with Lean Software Development principles

  • Ensure business requirements are vetted, prioritized and planned to meet agreed customer requirements

  • Work with the appropriate partners in Planning, Release Management and Governance to ensure that projects are implemented according to our business partners’ needs.

  • Enforce and grow a culture focused on quality

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Provides vision and operational direction for a team of software developers, business analysts and quality assurance, leveraging technology acumen and strong leadership skills

  • Supports multiple, diverse, and global fulfillment and operations teams, providing software to enhance their business and meet compliance objectives

  • Ensures that departmental and company guidelines are enforced, including those related to security, safety, change management, and code configuration

  • Works closely with external vendors and suppliers to clearly define engagement objectives, defines success criteria, monitor progress, and implement corrective actions as needed

  • Ensures application development alignment with other key technology functions such as strategy, business analysis, quality assurance, etc.

  • Proactively identify and implement guest improvement strategies, including regular review of product roadmap, code quality, problem management, etc.

  • Manage a variety of diverse - and sometimes conflicting – requests, priorities, and activities. Candidates will need management and communication skills to interact with people at all levels, within WDPR Technology and across the Walt Disney Company

  • Hire/release resources as needed for projects and/or performance reasons (within HR guidelines for Cast Members)

  • Restructure and reassign work within the team to better meet objectives

Basic Qualifications :

  • Minimum of ten (10) years relevant experience in Technology or Information Systems management supporting any Hospitality Domains - Reservation, Operations, or Fulfillment Systems

  • Proven hands-on experience in leading the delivery of end-user applications across a large, complex organization (at least 5 years).

  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills as well as continuous improvement process skills.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability and industry expertise in IT Project Management

  • Experience in a large media, technology or internet company

  • Success at achieving sophisticated technology goals on-time and on-budget

  • Expertise in developing software in JAVA / J2EE, Mobile (iOS / Andriod, Angular / Responsive) Technology (Distributed, SOA – REST, WS etc.).

  • Demonstrated ability to manage the large Agile teams (onshore and offshore development), while effectively influencing senior management on key decisions and direction

  • Proven ability to inspire, motivate and lead a team to produce quality work in the development of solutions

  • Demonstrated inclusive leadership that embraces diversity

  • Proven ability to successfully operate in a highly matrix organizational system where partnership and influence are key drivers of success

  • Has shown a value for initiating change and acting with integrity when tough decisions have to be made

  • Demonstrated ability to develop teams and mentor technical staff

  • Ability to communicate effectively to executive leadership in both business and technology roles

  • Strong presentation and group dynamics skills

  • Demonstrated strong partnering, negotiating and consensus building skills

  • Demonstrated strong written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills as well as facilitation experience

  • Proven knowledge in multiple technical areas

  • Willingness to learn new software applications and techniques

  • Demonstrated budget and scheduling management skills

  • A thorough understanding and passion for Agile methodology and Lean development principles

  • A thorough understanding of hospitality management systems

Required Education :

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience

Preferred Education :

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience
