The Walt Disney Company Lead Software Engineer in Lake Buena Vista, Florida

The Lead Software Engineer works as a leader in the team responsible for the support, maintenance and enhancement of the Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) platform. The ideal candidate brings experience with managing CI/CD and DevOps processes using tooling like Jenkins, SonarQube, Maven, Grunt, Rundeck and Nexus along with senior-level skill in Java or Groovy development. The role will interface a variety of other teams within the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Technology group including: Reference Architecture, Solution Engineering, Systems Engineering, Global Quality Engineering, Performance Engineering, Enterprise Technology and various delivery studios. Will be responsible for analyzing industry trends and partnering with other Release Engineering teams within The Walt Disney Company to identify strategic direction for the platform.

Responsibilities :

  • Recognized as an expert in CI/CD processes and tooling including Jenkins, Maven, Grunt, Gradle

  • Broad exposure to though leaders in the CI/CD and DevOps space to bring an industry perspective to the team

  • Senior Java or Groovy developer

  • Strong skills with Linux to enable installation, configuration, monitoring and support of our platform

  • Experience building REST services in Java and managing an overall platform API.

  • Familiar with software deployment platforms such as Tomcat, Node.js, WebSphere, JBoss, tcServer

  • Experience deploying CI/CD and DevOps solutions on Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure or other cloud services providers

  • Participate in weekly 24x7 on-call rotation for application support as needed

  • Participate with other functional teams in systems integration and design including writing operational specifications, test plans and requirements management with attention to detail

  • Participation with application design and hands on code development and deployment

Basic Qualifications :

  • 5-7+ years’ experience supporting and/or deploying CI/CD or DevOps solutions including software development in Java or Groovy

  • Familiar with Spring Framework

  • Experience with Redis or Elasticache and MySQL or MariaDB

  • Experience in at least two relevant scripting or programming languages (Ruby, Perl, Python, Shell, etc.)

  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills and the ability to work effectively across a wide range of constituencies in a diverse corporate and client environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently triage highly complex system and application incidents.

  • Able to evaluate new application requirements for operations best practices.

  • Able to evaluate new system and/or infrastructure solutions for technical feasibility against known requirements and standards.

  • Effective at dealing with change: Able to transition in role or handle a significant modification to workflow or technology with minimal ramp-up time and with very little guidance.

  • Comfortable presenting issues to management as well as peers, both written and verbally in a concise fashion.

  • Able to create system and production documentation, adhering to organization standards.

  • Ability to successfully operate in a highly matrixed organizational system where partnership and influence are key drivers of success.

  • Has shown the ability to initiate change and act with integrity when tough decisions have to be made.

  • Proven experience with system analysis and design, development, and testing.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with web UI technology such as AngularJS

  • Demonstrated experience with performance management/monitoring tools (AppDynamics, Sitescope, Splunk)

  • Experience with Automation platforms (Chef, CFEngine, Puppet, etc.)

Preferred Education :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or related equivalent experience
