The Walt Disney Company Lead Platform Engineer in Lake Buena Vista, Florida

Lead the highly complex product and package platform, TravelBox, in design and development. Collaborate closely with the vendor, technology partners and business partners to lead the roadmap of prioritized business features and drive delivery results. The Lead Platform Engineer provides technical guidance and oversight and leads, coaches, and mentors the Platform Engineering team.

Responsibilities :

  • Partner with the vendor (3rd party product), Solution Engineering, planning team, product team, delivery teams, digital and business partners to define the roadmap for integrations, new capabilities and features for the product.

  • Plans and executes large scale projects for new integrations, capabilities and features on the product.

  • Build and manage the vendor relationship, from a technical perspective. Ensure the health of the platform, assessing with metrics

  • Ensure the product meets the needs of the Architects best practices used in the development, maintenance of systems, including software platform, and configuration updates across multiple business units.

  • Defines the processes used in identification of the root causes of defects and leads root cause analysis; resolves problems and/or recommends solutions for implementation by others.

  • Oversees the development and implementation of tools, automation, and scripts to facilitate efficiency and reliability.

  • Ensures proper testing from the vendor and Disney.

  • Uses data and metrics to plan for growth needs, migration, and functionality.

  • Develops and reviews architecture and platform, develops and guides staff

  • Full life cycle responsibility for high-volume transactional software platform(s) and infrastructure

  • Leads the development and refinement of standards and best practices for the product related to new features and functionality based upon the needs of the supported business units.

  • Develops broad technical solutions that meet specifications and that impact future development and operations.

Basic Qualifications :

  • 8 to 12 years of progressively related experience in Systems Engineering and/or software development.

  • 1 to 3 years of agile project or team lead experience

  • Strategic thinker that is able to connect business outcomes to technology solutions, strong collaborator, analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills

  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization; this includes written, verbal, visualizations/deck building and facilitation skills

  • Proven ability to successfully operate in a highly matrixed organization with a diverse set of partners; demonstrated influence vertically and horizontally along with strong interpersonal, partnering and negotiating skills

  • Strong situational analysis and decision-making abilities

  • Strong ability to influence without authority

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Ability to share and present ideas and program details with Senior Executives

  • Ability to think creatively beyond normal constraints

Advanced experience with:

  • Java

  • Web Frameworks Spring.

  • Service Oriented Architecture / Web Services – SOAP / REST.

  • Web Technologies like HTML, CSS, Javascript and JQuery.

  • Markup Languages like XML and JSON.

  • Tools and middleware including Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, MQ, TC Server, WebSphere

  • Enterprise operating systems (Linux, Unix, Windows).

  • Database software (SQL Anywhere, Oracle). Removed Microsoft SQL

  • Apache Tomcat, IIS

  • AWS/Cloud Technologies

  • Project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, etc.)

  • Advanced knowledge of systems applications and hardware, server architecture, operating platforms, NAS/SAN technologies, and internet and web applications

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Agile Methodologies including the writing of user stories, involvement in SCRUM/KANBAN/LEAN, and project planning at a sprint and iteration level

Required Education :

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or similar field or related work experience. ​

Preferred Education :

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
