This person will be an integral team member of the Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media Business Affairs Department. The person will have day-to-day responsibilities for managing the trademark clearance process across the DCPI businesses. This person is expected to work in a highly collaborative fashion with other Business Affairs and Legal Affairs members of The Walt Disney Company and members of DCPI’s creative, product development, licensing, finance and franchise management groups.
Manage and trace the DCPI trademark clearance process, working with the licensing, vertical and digital content teams and in close cooperation with IP division of Legal.
Review incoming legal opinions and summarize the trademark clearance requirements and restrictions in actionable business-focused terms.
Create and distribute trademark reports for management as requested.
Attend scheduled meetings with franchise leads to support business strategy for trademark clearances and filings.
Prepare drafts for initial trademark filing application process as appropriate based on clearance results.
Gather product samples, financial and other historical documents to satisfy evidentiary requirements for trademark renewals, oppositions and third party negotiations.
Work with international teams for confirmation on trademark renewals.
Assist with trademark-related issues in product review and/ or approval process.
Work on other projects as assigned.
Basic Qualifications :
3 or more years’ experience in handling intellectual property issues and related matters.
High energy and enthusiasm, self-motivated, able to work independently.
Advanced working knowledge of Excel.
Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a rapidly-changing environment.
Strong interpersonal skills; financial/ analytical skills; and verbal and writing skills (discussion, analysis, succinctly summarizing key issues)
Ability to communicate effectively with business counterparts, understand business/ marketing strategies, assess risks and counsel appropriate action.
Superb organizational strength, capability to manage a large workload and juggle many competing priorities.
Required Education :
B.A./ B.S., or equivalent
Paralegal coursework or certificate preferred
