The Walt Disney Company Sr Level Designer in Glendale, California

The Sr. Level Designer (Content) will direct a team of level designers to create content for one or more match 3 mobile games. The candidate will work heavily with a 3rd party development team to build levels, create level design requirements, regularly play builds, and provide clear actionable feedback to the 3rd party team. The candidate must be open to travel if necessary to work directly with the development team.

The candidate will provide key input for level editor requirements, and new level related features and mechanics. The candidate must be able to create levels in editor or other industry standard tool sets. They will also participate in product and feature brainstorming sessions, and working closely with the Lead Game Designer to ensure level content and game systems are tied together.

The candidate will be responsible for giving the level design team a vision and process for creating best in class quality level content, and will oversee all level designs, ensuring level content is both fun and properly balanced. The candidate will also responsible for defining the overall level content strategy including level mechanic documentation, game pacing, level tutorials and the FTUE. In addition, they will create and manage the live operations plan for level content, and level expansions.

To successfully execute the role, the candidate must have excellent communication skills, especially dealing with an outside team. The candidate will also communicate ongoing design developments and demo the game to studio leadership to show off latest developments and key features. They must oversee design for internal playtesting and usability tests, and work closely with the Product Manager to define key features, beta testing goals, live operation strategy, and content updates.

Responsibilities : Major responsibilities with % of time for each, for purposes of determining whether salaried non-exempt (overtime eligible) versus salaried exempt, and also pay leveling

  • Lead and manage team of Level Designers (20%)

  • Work with Lead Game Designer for overall game and feature strategy and level content plan (20%)

  • Level play testing, reviews and feedback (40%)

  • Design, document + play test new level related game mechanics (10%)

  • Create levels for existing products (10%)

Basic Qualifications :

  • 5+ years in a Game Design position

  • 2+ years in a Level Design position on a Free to Play mobile match 3 puzzle game

  • Experience working with 3rd party teams

  • Shipped at least one mobile puzzle game in a Sr. Game Designer or higher position

  • Experience leading other Game Designers/Level Designers

  • Experience with Unity

  • Ability to analyze levels and extrapolate the strategy, fun and challenges in the level

  • Knowledge of the game industry, types of game genres, trends and recent hits
