The Sr. Teacher Aide must be a nurturing, caring individual with experience working in mixed-age groups center-wide. This teacher will be responsible for helping to plan and implement curriculum that meets the developmental needs of the whole child and ensuring that an interesting and varied program of activities is available to the children in the classroom.

Responsibilities : General Disney Children’s Center Staff Responsibilities:

As a member of the Disney Children’s Center Teaching Team, staff members are expected to:

  • Support the philosophy of the Disney Children’s Center and all its policies, practices, and guidelines

  • Provide positive support (verbally and in any other way possible) for other classrooms and teaching teams

  • Assist in keeping the Center running as smoothly as possible by willingly helping out in other classrooms when necessary to maintain a required ratio

  • Protect the confidentiality of all records and information concerning children, their families, and Center staff members

  • Maintain communication with the Classroom Lead/Center Director and/or Assistant Director regarding work repairs and necessary classroom maintenance

  • Serve as representatives of the Disney Children’s Center and the Walt Disney Company when out in the community or while attending college classes or Child Development Conferences

  • Attend all In-Service Trainings provided by the Center

  • Maintain current certifications in Infant/Child/Adult First Aid and CPR

Classroom Teaching Team Responsibilities:

As a member of a Classroom Teaching Team, all Teachers are responsible for:

  • Helping to plan and implement an educational program which meets the developmental needs of the whole child (i.e., physical, intellectual, social and emotional)

  • Ensuring that an interesting and varied program of activities (i.e., art, music, movement, science, language, etc.) is made available to the children in your classroom

  • Working with other members of your teaching team to develop curriculum that responds to the children’s interests and helping to adapt that curriculum to meet the individual and/or special needs of the children in your care

  • Helping to maintain a classroom environment that honors cultural diversity

  • Meeting with other team members to re-evaluate programming and classroom routines in an ongoing way

  • Helping to maintain a safe and healthy classroom environment (for children, their families, and staff)

  • Helping to ensure that all children, their family members and Center staff are treated with dignity and respect

  • Knowing the developmental level of each child within your group as well as being aware of their family history and family style

  • Developing a comfortable, trusting relationship with the families within your primary care group

  • Contribute to Daily or Weekly Reports (depending on age group)

  • Addressing any concerns, questions, and/or issues that are brought to you by the parents in your primary care group

  • Helping to meet NAEYC accreditation requirements by:

  • Contributing to the preparation of your Classroom’s Portfolio

  • Preparing Individual Portfolios for the children in your classroom and ensuring that these portfolios meet NAEYC standards

  • Sharing responsibility for the completion of general classroom job assignments (such as taking a turn writing the monthly Classroom Newsletter, helping to clean the kitchen area, washing bedding, etc.)

  • Contributing to the planning and presentation of Quarterly Classroom Parent Meetings

  • Taking a positive approach to conflict resolution (between teacher and parent or between various staff members)

Basic Qualifications :

  • Minimum one year of experience working in a mixed-age group preschool setting

Health Requirements:

All members of the teaching staff must:

  1. Meet the personnel requirements listed in Title 22 of the General Licensing Requirements of the State of California, including:

  2. Must be in good health and shall be physically and mentally capable of performing the assigned tasks

  3. Good physical health shall be verified by a health screening, including a test for tuberculosis, performed by or under the supervision of a physician

  4. The health screening report must indicate the person’s ability to meet any physical qualifications necessary to perform the assigned duties

  5. The health screening must also indicate the presence of any health condition that would create a hazard to the person, or to the children and/or other staff members at the Center

  6. Must be able to lift and carry a child weighing up to 50 pounds away from a potentially dangerous situation during an emergency that may/may not include an evacuation

  7. Must have the ability to act quickly and appropriately in hazardous situations and to provide first aid in emergency situations

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Prefer three – five years’ experience working in a mixed-age group preschool setting

Required Education :

  • Minimum AA or AS Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related field

  • Completion of 4 core classes

  • Child Growth and Development or Human Growth and Development

  • Child, Family and Community or Child and Family

  • Program/Curriculum Development

  • One additional 3 semester unit child development class

Preferred Education :

  • Prefer BA Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education or a related field

  • Completion of 4 core classes including 3 units in “Infant/Toddler Development”

  • Child Growth and Development or Human Growth and Development

  • Child, Family and Community or Child and Family

  • Program/Curriculum Development

  • One additional 3 semester unit child development class
