Games and Interactive Experiences (GIE) is the group within the Disney Parks, Experiences, and Consumer Products (DPECP) business segment of The Walt Disney Company responsible for immersive, connected, interactive experiences across console, online, mobile, AR/VR, social network, and connected device platforms. Disney Legal – Consumer Products (DCP Legal) is part of the Legal Department of The Walt Disney Company and provides legal advice to DPECP, primarily its consumer products business, including its licensing, publishing, and retail businesses. DCP Legal’s primary objective is to anticipate and identify risks, and advise how those risks can best be mitigated, all with the goal of assisting DPECP in meeting its strategic business objectives. DCP Legal also strives to stay current with emerging legal issues associated with and implicated by new technologies being adopted by DPECP within its evolving product portfolio. This role will primarily support the GIE business within DPECP.
The successful candidate for this position will provide legal support primarily to the GIE business, with an emphasis on business development and licensing, and GIE’s vertical games, apps, and connected experiences. In this capacity the candidate will draft and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements and provide legal advice to GIE teams in connection with GIE’s business activities. The candidate would also be expected to perform such other responsibilities as may be deemed necessary in support of the DCP Legal team.
Structure, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial agreements related to games and interactive experiences, including game and application licenses, contracts relating to technology and related systems and services, development agreements, distribution agreements, and service and vendor agreements.
Anticipate and identify risks arising from GIE’s activities, work with stakeholders to find solutions that address those risks and help GIE achieve its business objectives, and otherwise provide legal advice to the GIE team.
Collaborate with subject matter experts and other legal colleagues within the Walt Disney Company to provide legal advice to the GIE business regarding matters such as privacy (including COPPA) and data security, intellectual property, product and marketing disclosures, and consumer protection.
Basic Qualifications :
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in a law firm advising major corporate clients, including structuring, negotiating and drafting contracts and preferably specializing in issues related to technology, or digital products.
Experience in a corporate legal department with an emphasis on technology, or digital products strongly preferred.
Ability to identify and analyze complex issues and devise solutions and strategies.
Ability to anticipate and understand the implications of agreements, changes in the regulatory or business landscape, and other factors on a client, including identifying and assessing potential risks and impacts.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong drafting, negotiating and writing skills, as well as the ability to problem solve in an efficient, business-friendly, creative manner.
An excellent work ethic and commitment to professionalism and integrity; excellent attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with all levels of co-workers both internal and external.
Must be willing to take “ownership” of projects and think proactively.
Ability to handle a high volume of work and work through projects with minimal supervision.
Superior organizational skills with the ability to multi-task, and prioritize workload efficiently and effectively.
Membership in the California Bar or willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House Counsel required.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience providing legal advice in support of technology, games and apps, and the creation of next-generation digital and/or physical products.
