DWSS/Corporate is an expanding team of process experts and accounting professionals who provide shared accounting services to the Walt Disney Company (including all business segments). Under the leadership of the Manager, Financial Accounting, this position is responsible for conducting discreet business transformation and activity migration activities from multiple locations to a central service environment and conducting the day-to-day accounting and reporting activities performed by the team. This role has high interaction with a broad array of corporate and segment management personnel.
The Corporate Real Estate and Lease Accounting department is getting ready to embark on two major projects: the implementation process for the new lease accounting guidance for the entire company and centralization of global accounting for leases. This position will support these endeavors as well as perform day to day accounting for the Company’s lease and real estate transactions.
Segment / Business Process General and Administrative Accounting:
Execute day-to-day general and administrative lease and real estate accounting activities for assigned processes and segment activities related to Corporate and the Disney Stores.
Continuously improve the processes and infrastructure needed to successfully report financial results to Senior Management and to taxing/government agencies.
Execute quarterly balance sheet review process, monitor and recommend balance sheet reserves as needed and support segment related period end reconciliation and close activities.
- Help drive system initiatives and ensure the successful implementation of systems projects in partnership with key stakeholders, 3rd party vendors and internal IT teams to achieve greater efficiency and transparency for financial reporting.
Help establish and maintain Sarbanes-Oxley requirements including documentation of key controls and walkthroughs.
Ensure compliance with SOX, internal control policies and minimum control standards.
Responsible for the day to day general ledger accounting and reporting activities for Corporate Real Estate and The Disney Stores
Responsible for the preparation, coordination, review and analysis of the management reporting process for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
Preparation of journal entries and balance sheet account reconciliations
Review of contracts and analysis for lease accounting transactions
Preparation and review of straight-line schedules for all Company leases
Technical research for business partner inquiries
Provide analytical support to the Finance teams for annual AOP and quarterly forecast processes
Analysis and preparation of monthly and quarterly P&L and Balance Sheet variance analyses
SOX, governmental, and tax compliance tasks
Preparation of support for annual federal and state income, property, and real estate tax filings
Preparation of 10K/10Q related reporting
Ad hoc project work including the two aforementioned projects (implementation of new guidance and centralization projects)
Basic Qualifications :
2+ years of work experience
Demonstrates exceptional leadership and management skills
Strong understanding of key policies, procedures, functions in the Accounting and Finance department
Strong understanding and ability to demonstrate principles and techniques of General Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP"), Government Accounting Standards Board (GASB), financial reporting, forecasting and analysis. Conversant in relevant accounting guidance related to lease accounting.
Able to demonstrate and provide critical and complex problem solving techniques and resolutions while maintaining relationships with clients in a high stress environment
Strong understanding and ability to facilitate internal auditing procedures, external audit procedures, government accounting and principles, and practices of budget development/ administration
Strong understanding and skills with SAP, financial/project management systems development and implementation plans and training procedures
Strong understanding and ability to analyze, interpret and prepare financial statements and reports
Must possess strong quantitative and analytical skills combined with solid business and financial acumen
Strong relationship building skills and a highly professional “client service orientation”
Must be able to interact with all levels of management

Preferred Qualifications :
3-5 years of relevant work experience and proven record and ability to work with different cultures and points of view
Required Education :
- 4 Year Degree, Bachelor of Science in Accounting
Preferred Education :
- Masters degree/CPA preferred (or equivalent work experience) required in Accounting, Business, Business Administration, Finance or a related area of study
