The Walt Disney Studios encompasses the creation, production, promotion, sales, acquisition and domestic and international distribution of live-action and animated motion pictures, home entertainment releases, live stage plays, and music and soundtrack recordings.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Director, Multicultural Audience Engagement in Burbank, CA.

The Director, Multicultural Audience Engagement leads the strategy and development of a shorts program in partnership with the SVOD creative team to create content aimed at our diverse audiences as well develop a pipeline of diverse filmmaking talent to be utilized across brands, franchises, and platforms. This role collaborates with film makers and Human Resources to attract, develop and build relationships with a workforce that mirrors our global audiences and that creates content for our multicultural audiences and consumers. The successful candidate will possess a broad understanding of the film and entertainment business, the film making process, the creative talent pool and program administration experience.

Responsibilities :

  • Manages new SVOD shorts program across Studios areas in partnership with SVOD creative team

  • Builds strong creative relationships with all creative teams across Lucasfilm, Marvel, Pixar, WDAS, DTG and Live Action ensuring diverse creative hiring

  • Cultivates external creative partnerships with “feeder” organizations such as Sundance, AFI and USC

  • Manages the team coordinator and directs their projects

  • Provides creative notes and feedback on projects in pre-production and development ensuring representation and maximizing diverse storytelling opportunities

  • Maximizes internal partnerships with creative teams across the enterprise including DATG and DCWW ensuring we maximize creative talent across mediums

Basic Qualifications :

  • 5+ years of creative executive work, preferably within a Studio or related creative environment

  • Proven ability to develop and execute initiatives that require broad-based buy-in for success

  • Strategic thinker with superior collaboration skills

  • Keen understanding of the creative process and strong script development skills

  • Ability to influence and work through others in a highly matrixed organization

  • Strong external / industry network of creative talent including strong relationships with writers, directors, agents, managers and other executives including SVOD (Netflix, Amazon, etc)

  • Recognizes creative talent quickly and builds long-term relationships

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Previously established and/or led an inclusion talent development program such as a writers, directors or actors program

  • Worked in a “new media” creative environment such as SVODs or OTTs

  • Deep understanding of the shifting media landscape and what stories resonate

  • Comfortable interacting with high-level creative talent

Required Education :

  • BA/BS Degree or Comparable Work Experience
