The Walt Disney Company Head of Rights Acquisition, ESPN in London, United Kingdom
We have an exciting opportunity for a commercially focussed, Head of Rights Acquisition, EMEA to join our ESPN team on a permanent basis, based in Hammersmith, London.
This role is pivotal to ESPN EMEA’s rights acquisitions, shaping the acquisition strategy, covering both ESPN’s media distribution business, as well as the DTC service ESPN Player.
Reporting to the Director of Media Distribution, the Head of Rights Acquisition will support the development, planning and execution of the broader commercial and business development strategy, including market expansion, strategic partnerships and M&A.
Responsibilities : Rights Acquisition and Media Distribution
Together with the Director Media Distribution, responsible for ESPN’s rights acquisitions strategy, focused on securing rights that can drive profitable growth for ESPN EMEA.
Identify rights prospects, build the business case for acquisition.
Drive the full end to end acquisition process including: RFP / bid response, valuation process, financial modelling and communication across both internal and external stakeholders.
Expand ESPN’s network of contacts across rights holders, both with existing contacts and by deepening existing relationships within rights holders.
Working with the international Rights Acquisitions team, coordinate global rights acquisition activities and best practice across regions
Commercial Strategy and Business Development
Support the definition and implementation of the commercial strategy and new business development opportunities.
Assessing the competitive landscape in search of emerging trends and threats.
Understand and map the commercial ecosystem in relevant markets outside of the UK (broadcasters, SVOD providers, existing commercial partners, etc.).
Basic Qualifications :
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Experience in media rights sales or acquisitions
Understanding of rights acquisition process
A breadth of senior rights holder relationships
Working knowledge of contractual negotiations
Familiar with key markets in EMEA
Strong commercial acumen, with a firm grasp of digital media
Strategic business and marketing acumen
Client relationship building and management/influencing skills
Comfortable and conversant with new technology applications
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Ability to work independently and communicate confidently
Willingness to undertake international travel is a requirement.
A second language would be an advantage
