The Walt Disney Company Zoological Manager - Large Animal Team in Lake Buena Vista, Florida
About the Role & Team
As a Zoological Manager for Disney's Animal Kingdom, you will be on a multi-manager team that leads the Ituri/Elephant husbandry programs, daily maintenance, development of keeper routines, animal enrichment, behavior modification, exhibit design, staff selection, staff development, and assists with animal acquisition and deacquisition. The collection of this team is focused on African hoof stock and large birds, elephants, rhinos and hippos.
In this role, you will report to the Animal Operations Manager of Disney's Animal Kingdom – Ituri/Elephant Team.
What You Will Do
Lead area team to deliver uncompromising excellence in animal care and welfare
Promote and enforce Company guidelines, policies and standards
Select, train, evaluate and develop area Animal Keeper staff
Act as primary contact for Veterinary, Nutrition, Horticulture, Operations, Education, and Maintenance issues
Assume leadership role during emergency situations.
Participate in collection planning for species in the area
In partnership with the Behavioral Husbandry team, manage the area animal training and enrichment programs
Partner and manage the development of area research and education programs
Interact with other zoological facilities and conservation organizations on issues regarding the progressive animal care, husbandry, research and conservation
Participate in scientific meetings, conferences and workshops, when appropriate
Required Qualifications & Skills
Minimum five years of paid experience at an AZA accredited or equivalent facility
Demonstrated leadership ability
Demonstrated ability to positively interact within a team environment, with ability to deliver and receive constructive feedback to improve team performance
Demonstrated strong organizational, problem solving and communication skills
Computer proficiency with Microsoft software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum one year of leading teams of animal professionals
Experience with hoofed stock, elephants, rhinos and hippos
Experience in operant conditioning, and enrichment
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, utilizing strong interpersonal and partnering skills.
Education
- High school degree or equivalent
Preferred Education
- 4 year college degree in biology or related field
